Gridiron Warriors Collide
Once again it was a perfect night for football and once again after a back and forth first Quarter the Bel-Air Norsemen took control and defeated the Kanata Knights as they did in the pre season game Aug 22.
However this score was higher simply due to the turnovers to the Norsemen interceptions (3) and strong defensive play on our goal line (4 consecutive downs).In the first quarter there were excellent tackles early by Daniel Damaren (#44) and Hayden Bourre (#99) that stalled the Kanata offense.
The Norsemen offense then moved the ball on the ground due to agressive runs by Charles Guei (#15) who had 2 runs that produced 2 consecutive first downs (10 yards+) and Joshua Olubajo (#2) who added to that with his own first down run placing the ball deep in Kanata’s end.
After a kick the defense then held the Knights on their goal line and they were forced to concede a 2 point touchback The Norsemen began to take over the game after this explosive group of runs near the end of the first Quarter.

The second Quarter showcased a 30 yard run by the Quarterback Gabriel Zammar (#9) and also 2 first down runs/catches by Kingston Pappas (#5) and another by Joshua Olubajo (#2). After these runs Kingston Pappas was able to run for a TD which was not converted.
Following a change of possession the Knights tried a pass deep into the Norsemen end. The pass was tipped and caught by Shadvantay Watt (#18) who dodged and weaved his way through the Knights for a 70 yard TD which also was not converted.
End of 2nd Norsemen 14 – Knights 0.
In the third Quarter Kingston Pappas (#5) returned a punt 25 yards and there were 2 interceptions, the first by Jean Marc Thompson Deschamps (#10) and the second by Jessie Martin (#31) who ran for 45 yards. Then the QB Gabriel Zammar again made a great run and this time obtained a TD which was converted by Jean Marc Thompson Deschamps (#10).
End of 3rd Norsemen 21 – Knights 0.
The fourth Quarter saw the Knights try to get points using their receivers more but this only resulted in quicker turnovers of possession and 2 more Norsemen TDs.
Charles Guei (#15) had worked hard all game and had a huge 15 yard carry in this quarter for a TD . In the final seconds of the quarter after an impressive run Gabriel Zammar also got a TD.
There was also a huge hit by Daniel Damaren that stopped the Knights runner in the backfield and the Knights cold. Aidan Levett obtained 2 first downs on 2 separate runs to show that there are a number of dangerous runners on the Norsemen.
Final Score Norsemen 35 – Knights 0
Again the Norsemen players showed that they are resilient and capable of taking over a game after being challenged by the Knights who have improved. It is hoped that the Norsemen continue to improve to keep ahead of the other teams’ who are getting better week after week.
