Hard-fought game, Norsemen prevail ⚔️
This was an unusually warm and comfortable October evening for football. The sun had dipped below the Sportsplex so we did not need to block the sunshine to see the play and the stands had just re-opened for spectators this evening.
The first quarter began with the Knights kicking off to the Norsemen and Kingston Pappas (#5) promptly returned it 30 yards and then from the downs carried the ball further into the Knights end.
On a subsequent play the QB Gabriel Zammar (#9) did a beautiful fake hand off and then swept wide for a 30+ yard run into the end zone.
His TD was converted by Jean Marc Thompson Deschamps (#10).
The Norsemen had the lead approx. 3 minutes into the game and then kicked off to the Knights. On the Knights first down Daniel Damaren (#44) made a great tackle at their line of scrimmage that prevented a lengthy run.
It seemed that the Norsemen had come to play and had settled into the game much faster than in previous games. On their second down the Knights attempted pass but Nicholas Andrews made a great interception and got to the Knights 30 yard line.
End of first – Norsemen 7 – Knights 0
In the second after a turnover on downs to the Norsemen #9 made a great 40 yard pass to #5 for a TD which again was converted by #10.
Once again after the Knights got the ball a pass was intercepted by Ethan Hutton (#20). Then the Norsemen Charles Guei (#15) ran the ball 15 yards to the Knights 15 yard line but the Knights held and the Norsemen settled for a field goal (#10).
Later in the quarter once again a Knights pass was intercepted but by Noah Shirey (#4) who was then targeted for a pass which he ran for a TD that was converted by #10.
The second ended Norsemen 24 – Knights 0
In the third quarter both teams would move the ball and then turn it over on downs but on one of the Knights punts #15 returned the ball for over 40 yards.
Shortly thereafter with 1:22 left in the quarter #9 passed to #5 for a TD which was converted by #10. Following this TD the Norsemen kicked off and #44 made a jaw dropping tackle on the kick returner.
End of Third Norsemen 31 – Knights 0
There was no scoring in the fourth quarter but some very notable defensive plays. The Knights QB was sacked by Nathanael Anna (#92) for a 10 yard loss early in the quarter and then again with only 32 seconds left.
In addition between these sacks Ewan Ingram (#45) and Maxym Saint- Pierre (#96) tackled the Knights QB when he was at his scrimmage line.
FINAL SCORE Norsemen 31 – Knights 0
In closing, you should note that this TEAM has put together an incredible run that has only been possible due to the hard work of the players who have shown the grit , determination and intensity needed.
The offensive line has protected our QB and and the entire defensive group have been excellent by stifling any offense from the other teams.
Just to highlight, the sound defense there has only been 15 points scored against the Norsemen in 6 games. And the offense has been very good also scoring double the points of the next highest scoring varsity team.
However one must not forget the effort of the coaches who have developed this team. There is still work to be done to maintain this level of success and we must all thank the family and friends who are supporting these players.
