Black & Gold, Bold & Proud

On a near perfect football night the Norsemen met a Myers Ryders team which has just returned to this Varsity level of play.

This meant there were many unknowns for both teams. Once again the visiting team opened with the kick off which was returned by Charles Guei (#15) for about 30 yards putting the Norsemen near center field. After threatening to drive deep into Myers end their defense held and the Norsemen kicked on 4th down.

The Norsemen defense then made 2 QB sacks first Nicholas Andrews (#42) and Nathanael Anna (#92 and then a sack by Gavin Lapalme (#54) which created a turnover for the Norsemen. Later in the 1st quarter the Riders kicked into the Norsemen end zone and were able to get a touchback point.

Once again the Norsemen were held and kicked on 4th down but this time Myers dropped the ball and Nicholas Andrews (#42) recovered it. Then on the 4th down with 1 yard to go the Norsemen were able to get a first down on about the Myers 30 yard line.

End of the 1st – Myers 1 Norsemen 0.

The 2nd quarter began with the Norsemen deep in Myers end and then after some strong runs by Joshua Olubajo (#2) he was able to get a TD but the convert hit the crossbar.

The Myer’s defense were able to stop many runs and the Norsemen passing attempts were incomplete, however later in the quarter once again Joshua Olubajo had a few strong runs and got a second TD but the 2 point conversion was missed.

Later in the second the Norsemen got back the touchback when they were able to tackle Myers in their end zone after a kick.

Half Time – Myers 1 Norsemen 13.

The third began with the Norsemen kicking and again both defenses played very well. Then Daniel Demaren (#44) sacked the Myers QB to end their drive. The Norsemen took over with Charles Guei (#15) running for 40 yards and scoring a TD. He then also ran to obtain a 2 point conversion. Then late in the third as in the 1st the Norsemen Daniel Demaren (#44) obtained the ball on a fumble recovery on Myers 36 yard line.

End of 3rd quarter Myers 1 Norsemen 21.

The fourth began with a long pass to Kingston Pappas (#5) for a Norsemen TD but the convert was blocked. Then a pass by Myers was intercepted by Noah Shirey (#4). Subsequently Aidan Levett (#21) followed with consecutive runs for 18 yd , 10 yd, and then a 10 yd run to obtain a TD which was converted by Jean Marc Thompson Deschamps (#10).

Then late in the 4th Myers began moving the ball with some success until Shadvantay Watt (#18) made a great stop to end a Myers run.

Final score Myers 1 Norsemen 34.

This game demonstrated that all Varsity teams are competitive this year and that the Norsemen will need to continue to improve to remain successful this year.
